Blackford County Private Investment Soars in 2011
Blackford County, Ind. (December 20, 2011) – Despite a sluggish global economy, private companies in Blackford County pledged to invest more than $35 Million in 2011. The new investment, comprised of both Real and Personal Property, will generate more than $2.6 Million in new tax revenue over the next 10 years.
The $35 Million in private investment is a substantial increase for Blackford County. It represents nearly 10 percent of the total net Assessed Value for all of Blackford County. The new investment in 2011 is also more than four times the total combined investment of years 2009 and 2010 in Blackford County.
In addition to the impressive investment figures, those companies have pledged to create an additional 86 new jobs for Blackford County area residents.
“The new investment figures show that companies believe Blackford County is an exceptional place to do business,” said Bill Hess, President of the Blackford County Economic Development Corporation Board of Directors. “Companies that choose Blackford County are able to find a quality workforce and two business-friendly City Councils in Hartford City and Montpelier. In 2011, seven companies filed for new tax abatement in either Hartford City or Montpelier, and represented a wide array of industries. Those companies included manufacturers, health care providers, recyclers and agribusiness.
3M Corporation, Blackford County’s largest private-sector employer, invested nearly $9 Million in new equipment in 2011. Hearts with Integrity expanded into a new facility and added an additional four employees. Central States Enterprises invested $6.5 million and added two employees.
The Recycling industry has grown significantly in Blackford County in recent years. Hartford City Quality Pallet became the newest recycler to locate in Blackford County. The wood pallet recycling company moved into the Blackford Industrial Park in April and employs six people. Petoskey Plastics (plastic) and Hartford Iron & Metal (steel) both invested in new equipment, with Petoskey Plastics adding additional employees.
Naturally Recycled Proteins, a leading manufacturer of protein additives for various pet foods, announced in July that it was adding a facility in the Montpelier Industrial Park. The $16 Million investment, and 68 new jobs, represented the largest new-job announcement in Blackford County in nearly 20 years.
